Major malfunction

Last week while out on a ride, I started to hear a sound. Unfortunately it was a sound like a bearing was going out. I narrowed it down to the front wheel and tore into the hub yesterday. Low and behold, I have a bit of a problem. The first side I opened was perfect, just needed some more grease. The other side, however, had a nice "rust" tone to it and dry as can be. Upon closer inspection, I have some damage to the hub and cone. The cone isn't my main concern, but the hub is a bad deal. I'm going to call Shimano (gotta love working at a shop) on Tuesday and hopefully get it replaced under warranty. I've had the bike for less than a year, so I would think that it should last longer than that, no matter how many miles I've put on it.
This leads to another dilemma. Either way, I'm going to need to send off my front wheel to get fixed. I sure in the hell am not going to stop training. So do I 1. purchase another wheel set and have a backup, or 2. get that backup bike I've been clamoring for? Decisions, decisions. Like I mentioned before, I'm leaning towards the new rig. With the trails (and most dirt roads) still not ridable, it's looking like a better decision everyday.
