There's a reason for everything
I don't particularly enjoy training in the heat, wind, humidity, etc. So when I woke this morning and saw it was raining and windy, I figured it was just another way to test my mental capacity for tolerating the uncomfortable. 2 hours in those conditions, like this morning, just prepare me for anything I may run into while racing. It's true that a persons fitness level plays a big part towards success, but I believe that my mental toughness may come into play even more. So when I compete in snow/freezing temps, almost unbearable heat, or rain coming down sideways, I'm ready for it and most often welcome it. Because I figure my competition, for the most part, doesn't put themselves in those situations while training, so on race day I have the advantage. I'll take a training suffer fest any day.......... because there's a reason for everything.
