I was doing a repair on a bike yesterday at the shop, pretty simple, a couple flats, new chain and new seat. When I took the front wheel off, I noticed the customers attempt at fixing said flat tire. This is something I need to remember in a pinch........bubble gum and duct tape........no kidding. No, his name was not
McGiver.

this is a "no shitter"...
I have oversize tires (BFG AT T/A-KO) and notice a lea one day at work. It was flowing out pretty good. I pulled my electric pump out and started getting air back in it. It was hissing out at a good rate... but air still went it raising the pressure. I stopped the pump and could hear it still rushing out. I located the screw in the treads and wondered... I knew that if I pulled the screw it would open the hole and that's bad news. Well- this is what I did.
I pulled the screw. I think cut off the the tip of a #2 pencil about 1/4in. above the pointed area. I use plers to push the wooden tip deep into the hole. I fired up the pump- got it loaded as much as I could then took off for a repair. I made it.
Whiel sitting in the waiti room- the guy came out and in front of some 20 people said- "Sir- you ran over a pencil" hahaha.. I had forgot to tell him about that. I waked back and looked at it with him. Explained what I had done and he was astonished. He called over some 7-8 guys in the shop to see it.
I didn't have any bubble gum.
